A Brief History
Since it was founded (as North Powys Youth Theatre) in 1983, MYT has
  • performed in theatres, streets, village halls and schools, from
  • Edinburgh to Penybontfawr and Stockholm, via Liverpool and Birmingham;
  • represented Powys with performances and exhibition in the Millenium Dome;
  • pioneered innovative joint creative projects with groups in Sweden - the SWELSH connection;
  • performed by invitation at the National Theatre in London;
  • organised and run festivals, specialist workshops and collaborative projects, in schools and the community, for young people from the ages of 5 to 18+;
  • staged a great variety of major productions, from devised work to plays by the international “greats” .... Shakespeare, Brecht, Ibsen, Thomas, Buchner ....... and many others;
  • established training programmes for youth theatre workshop leaders, and employed them;
  • gained an award for Excellence in Youth Work;
  • provided the first step on the career ladder which leads to top drama colleges and theatre-allied professions for many members - and many of them come back to share their skills with the coming MYT generation.
